About the instructors
Cristian Zaelzer Ph.D., Co-Professor
Cristian Zaelzer is a Chilean-Canadian neuroscientist, graphic designer, educator, communicator & artist.
He is the founder and President of the Convergence Initiative, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to advancing (neuro)science education and knowledge through art, promoting the horizontal interaction between science and art disciplines. Through Convergence, Zaelzer has hosted numerous student sciart exhibitions at national and international level. He also mentors and advises in sciart methods for Falling Walls Berlin, Canadian Council for the Art Awardees, and Concordia University.
Cristian has published research and commentaries on emotionality in science communication and new methods in science-art collaborations for education, where he develops part of his research.
In 2019, the Society for Neuroscience awarded Cristian the prestigious Science Educator Award. In 2020, the Canadian Association for Neuroscience awarded him the Advocacy & Outreach Award. Falling Walls Berlin selected his work for the Falling Walls Science Engage prize in Berlin. As a scientist, Cristian has published his work in journals like Cell Reports, PNAS, Science, and Nature. He received the CIHR Brain Star Award for his scientific achievements in 2016.
As a gay and Latino immigrant, Cristian is recognized as a leader in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), LGBTQ2S+ involvement in STEM, and bridging different communities with science.
Don Undeen, Co-Professor
Don Undeen was the Founding Manager of the Maker Hub at Georgetown University, and Adjunct Professor of creative technology courses in Georgetown’s Communications, Culture, and Technology graduate program. Prior to his work at Georgetown, Don was the founder and Senior Manager of the Media Lab at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, an incubator for experiments at the intersection of art, technology, and the museum experience. A lifelong lover of creative technology and the communities that practice it, Don has consulted with businesses, non-profits, museums, governments, and religious institutions around the world, helping complex organizations develop spaces for innovation.
Don is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Design from Concordia University in Montreal, with a focus on makerspaces, speculative design, and sociability.

Il est le fondateur et le président de l’initiative Convergence, une organisation à but non lucratif qui se consacre à l’avancement de l’enseignement des (neuro)sciences et de la connaissance par l’art, en promouvant l’interaction horizontale entre les disciplines scientifiques et artistiques. Par l’intermédiaire de Convergence, Zaelzer a accueilli de nombreuses expositions d’étudiants en sciences au niveau national et international. Il est également mentor et conseiller en matière de méthodes de sciart pour Falling Walls Berlin, les lauréats du Conseil canadien des arts et l’Université Concordia.
Cristian a publié des recherches et des commentaires sur l’émotionnalité dans la communication scientifique et les nouvelles méthodes de collaboration science-art pour l’éducation, où il développe une partie de ses recherches.

Don Undeen, Co-professeur
Don Undeen a été le directeur fondateur du Maker Hub de l’université de Georgetown et professeur adjoint de cours de technologie créative dans le cadre du programme d’études supérieures de Georgetown sur les communications, la culture et la technologie. Avant de travailler à Georgetown, Don a été le fondateur et le directeur principal du Media Lab du Metropolitan Museum of Art, un incubateur d’expériences à l’intersection de l’art, de la technologie et de l’expérience muséale. Passionné depuis toujours par les technologies créatives et les communautés qui les pratiquent, Don a conseillé des entreprises, des organisations à but non lucratif, des musées, des gouvernements et des institutions religieuses dans le monde entier, aidant des organisations complexes à développer des espaces d’innovation.
Don poursuit actuellement une maîtrise en design à l’Université Concordia de Montréal, avec un accent sur les makerspaces, le design spéculatif et la sociabilité.
